Weekend HW and AP Exam Time!

Monday starts AP exam time! Good luck to those of you who have AP Chem, Environmental, and/or Psychology on Monday! I have the utmost confidence in you! If you want to earn that 4 or 5 you have to work for it! For the next two weeks you need to work harder than you have; prepare yourself to succeed and put forth your best effort!

Study, study, study for AP exams! Success on AP exams is all about your preparation!
  • Type up an outline of your notes!
  • Look over your unit tests from throughout the year!
  • DO A PRACTICE EXAM in your Barron's book!
  • Look through specific topics for review notes and practice problems in your Barron's book!
  • Download an APP! There are lots of free AP prep apps!
  • Try a practice exam linked on the right!
  • Did I mention that Barron's book?

Weekend Homework:

1.) Please complete AND SCORE the 2005 Free Response question (parts a,b,c)! Due Tuesday!
  • Parts a and b are review!
  • Part c is some practice with a t-interval for slope--this is going to be a little bit of a challenge! Figure it out!
  • Here's the link to the rubric so you can score your answers:

Extra Credit Practice Exam (from our Saturday session): MUST BE COMPLETED BY THE END OF THURSDAY!

If you want extra credit test points you must come to complete the 2016 practice test (and turn it in) by next Thursday after school!
  • (I won't be here after school next Friday, I unfortunately have to leave early again for another appointment).
  • Come after school, during G (Tues/Thurs), or H period to work individually or with some classmates on the practice test!
  • Or come after school on Monday, Weds, or Thursday!
  • When you finish, complete an answer sheet (you must get this from me when you're here) and turn it in (stapled to the front of your test)
  • I will then grade this to determine your extra credit points
  • Then you'll get your tests back on Monday 5/8

If you were absent today:

  1. You have to make up your quiz between Monday - Wednesday next week
  2. You must complete each of the problems below:
    1. Part d on the free response and the two MC were our classwork on Friday (after our quiz)
    2. Parts a,b,c of the free response are your homework (and score them!) as described above

Thursday = Study! (and extra credit...)

Tonight--study!!!! We will start class with our chi-squared quiz tomorrow! You will complete a free response followed by 4 multiple choice questions! You will have 25 minutes!
  • Conduct a chi-squared test for independence (hypotheses, conditions, math, conclusion)
  • Conduct a chi-squared test for goodness of fit (hypotheses, conditions, math, conclusion)
  • Know how to find expected counts (for both types of test)
  • Find degrees of freedom (df) for both kinds of test
  • Know about the chi-squared distribution (its characteristics)!
After the quiz tomorrow we will work on a free-response question to practice our t-tests and t-intervals for slope! If you do not finish in class this will be your weekend homework, to be checked on Tuesday! (So if you have Chem/Environmental/Psych on Monday you can focus on studying for those!)

And don't forget -- you can do some homework extra credit AND some extra studying for this quiz! Complete AND SCORE the 2011 free response problem on the back! This must be done by Friday (quiz day)!
  • This time we are given our observed counts, expected counts, chi-squared value, and p-value--so we won't need our graphing calculators!

Finally, if you want extra credit test points you must come to complete the 2016 practice test (and turn it in) by next Thursday after school!
  • (I won't be here after school next Friday, I unfortunately have to leave early again for another appointment).

Tuesday HW!

Tonight = chi-squared test for independence practice! Notice that between our in-class example and these two problems there have been 3 chi-squared tests for independence in the past 5 years--so this stuff is a big deal!

**Our quiz will be moved to Friday! So, Friday = Chi-squared quiz!**

Tonight: please complete AND SCORE the 2013 Free Response question (age group vs. whether or not a person consumes five or more servings of fruits and veggies per day)

Here's the link to the scoring rubric so you can score and check your answer!

2013 Scoring Guidelines/Rubric! (Scroll down to #4)

Want some homework extra credit AND some extra studying for this quiz? Complete AND SCORE the 2011 free response problem on the back! This must be done by Friday (quiz day)!

Monday HW = More Review!

Tonight please complete the (12) miscellaneous inference review multiple choice questions provided in class (or below)!

Here's the plan for the week if you're curious:
  • Tomorrow we'll finish up chapter 26 with a chi-squared test for independence!
    • Then, tomorrow night, we'll have some chi-squared free response for homework!
  • On Wednesday we'll get into chapter 27, our last "new stuff" of AP Stat!

  • Finally, on Friday we'll finish up the "new stuff" in chapter 27!
You have on last extra credit opportunity for test points:
  • Come to our room to work on the 2016 practice exam (from our Saturday session)!
  • Come yourself or with classmates to work in a group!
  • Work on the take home test, turn it in when you're done--I'll grade it and you will earn some extra credit points toward your test average based on the number you have correct!
  • This only counts if you come during these times...
    • H period any day
    • G period Tues/Thurs/Fri
    • After school Mon, Weds, Thurs
And remember, I will be after school this Thursday (half day) for an AP Stat review session -- finishing up this 2016 practice exam!

Saturday Session Tomorrow!

1.) We have our final mandatory Saturday review session this SaturdayBe sure to sign up in class!

  • You will receive a classwork or quiz grade (haven't decided yet) for attending and actively participating in our Saturday session! As long as you're there, you work hard, and are actively engaged in our session you'll get an A!
  • Bring a snack if you like! I'll have a granola bar for you and our bingo winners will win some candy, but otherwise feel free to bring a snack or a water.
  • Bring your notes and your calculator!

2.) Your Inference for Means Take Home Test (Ch. 23-25) is due Monday (4/24)! I'm having issues with the assignments link on the right so you must email me if you lost your copy or need one (carofano.fm@easthartford.org).
  • The multiple choice section tells you to show work for any question with **--but none of the questions show **! I'm an idiot; ignore these directions. You do not necessarily need to show work for the MC (but I'll appreciate it if you did).
  • On the open-ended section #4a the question asks you to interpret an interval but does not give a confidence level--I used 95%
    • How could you have figured that out?

3.) We will also have a voluntary review session next Thursday, 4/27, after our half day!

  • This will be an opportunity to work through some practice exams or review some specific topics with me, individually, and/or in groups!

I'll see you all tomorrow! We'll continue with chi-squared tests for independence on Monday! See you there!

April Break = Take Home Test!

HW = TAKE HOME TEST! DUE MONDAY!!!!!
  • This will be our largest test grade of the entire year!
    • Put in max effort; use all your notes, come to our review session, and show all of your work--get an A!
  • (We will probably have a test on inferences for means the week we come back from break)--we'll cover chapter 25 Mon-Weds, then start chapter 26 on Thursday!

Now is the time to start preparing for your AP exams!
  • The best thing you can do to study for our AP Stat exam is to work on the practice exams in the back of your Barron's book!
  • There's also a diagnostic exam in the front for you to try!
  • I have total confidence we can all get a 3 or above--but only if we put in the hard work required to earn such a score!
    • If you wing-it you will absolutely, undoubtedly score lower than you are capable of, no matter what your grade is or how well you've done in our class!
When we come back from break we'll quickly finish up chapter 25 (Mon-Weds), then we'll have an in-class or take-home test about chapters 23-25! On Thurs/Fri we'll get into chapter 26 (chi squared)! We're almost there!

1 Month of the hardest you've worked all year = success on the AP exam!

And finally, remember we have our second/final MANDATORY AP SATURDAY SESSION on April 22nd!

Lastly, here is the answer key to our chapter 24 classwork so you can check your work and use this to review!

Thursday HW!

Tonight, please complete the following in your textbook
  • Page 566: 3, 25, 21b, 19b
  • For 21/19...
    • Do 21b (create the interval--just do the math)
    • Then, use this interval to answer the question in 19b! "Based on your interval, is there evidence that viewer memory for ads may differ between programs with sexual content and those with neutral content?"
      • Use your interval from 19b to answer this question!
      • (Last night you used a hypothesis test to answer 19b)
  • For 25, a = math and interpret, b = conditions

**Remember, it is critical that you get your homework done each night that it's due! There won't be any homework after the AP exam, which means you won't have any opportunities to bring up your homework average--so do all your homework until then!**

Friday/April Break HW =  AP Exam review take home test!

And finally, remember that we have our April Break review session on Thursday, 4/13!
  • You will have the opportunity to work in groups on your take home test!
  • You'll also get to ask me questions if you need help!
  • We'll eat some stuff!
  • If you finish your take home test and turn it in at the end of the review session you will receive extra credit!
  • Sign up in the back of the classroom if you plan to attend!

Tuesday-Thursday HW!

We have a MANDATORY meeting after school this Thursday! Be in the cafe right after school! The faster we get there and get settled the sooner we get out!

If you were absent on Tuesday we started class with a chapter 23 quiz; I expect you to make up this quiz before April break! Get on it!

Here's our homework for the next couple classes--if you can do this you know what you need to know about chapter 24!

Tuesday/Wednesday HW:
  • Page 566: 1, 11, 19
  • For 11 you need to do the full test! Hypotheses, conditions, math, conclusion!
  • For 19a write the hypotheses then use the given p-value to write your conclusion
  • Same thing for 19b--the full hypothesis test, but you can assume the conditions have been satisfied! e sure to use the correct two data sets!
Thursday HW:
  • Page 566: 3, 25, 21b, 19b
  • For 21/19...
    • Do 21b (create the interval)
    • Then, use this interval to answer the question in 19b!
    • You did 19b in your previous assignment and answered this question with a hypothesis test; for tonight, I want you to answer this same question, but this time based on your interval from 21b!
  • For 25, a = math and interpret, b = conditions
Friday/April Break HW:
  • AP Exam review take home test!
And finally, remember that we have our April Break review session on Thursday, 4/13!
  • You will have the opportunity to work in groups on your take home test!
  • You'll also get to ask me questions if you need help!
  • We'll eat some snacks!
  • If you finish your take home test and turn it in at the end of the review session you will receive extra credit!
  • Sign up in the back of the classroom if you plan to attend!

Tomorrow we will start class with a chapter 23 quiz, covering:
  • T-Tests
  • T-Intervals
  • Types of Error
  • Finding sample size given margin of error

Tonight do the Extra Credit Homework Opportunity: Due Tomorrow; and this is studying for your quiz!

  • Complete the 2008 and 2013 Free Response questions from our Saturday session

  • Then use the answer key to grade your answers!
    • Use a different color pen/pencil to grade your free response questions; fix any errors you made and/or record some notes about how to do anything you got incorrect!
  • This extra credit is a great review of chapter 23! Also, either tomorrow we'll start class with a "pop" quiz on t-tests and t-intervals--so if you do this extra credit homework you're not only getting extra credit, you're studying for that quiz (and the AP exam)!

If you'd like to get ahead here's the upcoming homework--and you know we won't have homework after the May 11th, so get a 100% homework average now!

Tuesday HW:

Saturday Session Recap! (Read especially if you weren't here)

Here's a recap of what happened today (Saturday) for those of us who were out. There's also an extra credit opportunity below so you can start out the 4th quarter strong!

  • We started with an AP exam review stamp--another histogram! Try it out if you weren't here!
  • Then we finished up chapter 23 with some "new stuff"-- we went through the second and third slide below! You definitely should get these notes from someone who was here! (or these are on the front page of the slides you got in class Friday)
  • Then we worked in our groups and did the 7 multiple choice I gave you--these will be collected and graded on Monday as your first grade of the fourth quarter!
  • We DID NOT start chapter 24, so if I gave you that paper don't worry about it--we'll look at this together in class on Monday/Tuesday!
  • Extra Credit Homework Opportunity: Due Tuesday!
    • Complete the 2008 and 2013 Free Response questions from our Saturday session
      • These questions summarize the main ideas you need to know from chapter 23!
      • So, not only are you practicing for the AP exam by doing these, and not only are you getting some extra credit, you're studying chapter 23! So do this!
