Thursday: First "Real" Homework!

Tonight, please complete the "Analyzing Context" homework provided in class (or at the bottom of this post)!

Tomorrow we will go over any questions and check our answers--these are some of the types of questions you'll have to answer on Wednesday's chapter 2 quiz!
  • On the quiz you will also have to describe/identify the sample/sample size (if it's provided)--so it might be a good idea to try that as well for tonight's homework contexts!

If you haven't yet, sign up for Remind! There are only 10ish people left to sign up!
  • This will be a major tool we use for class announcements and communication; students can message one another or message me directly with questions!
  • If you have a phone it is required that you have Remind for our class...
    • Download the free Remind app
    • Enter the class code: @ehapstat
  • Or, if you prefer not to use the app (or can't), text @ehapstat to 81010
And lastly, I'm planning for a "Chapter 2 Quiz" next Wednesday! The quiz will have two parts; you will have about 15 minutes:
  • Analyze a context (like tonight's hw)
  • Chapter 2 Vocab (multiple choice)
    • Data
    • Categorical Data/Categorical Variable
    • Quantitative Data/Quantitative Variable
    • Relative
    • statistic (with the lower-case s)
    • Response Variable
    • What statistics are used with quantitative data?
    • What statistic is used to summarize categorical data?
    • What graphical displays are used for quantitative data?
    • What graphical displays are used for categorical data?

Here's tonight's homework in case you lost yours!

See you all tomorrow for day 3! Be sure to have your graphing calculator!

Summer Assignment Due Wednesday!

The AP Stat Summer Assignment is due Wednesday! Be sure to get this done--this will be your first test grade of AP Stats!

I can't wait to see you all and get back to work! We'll start learning first thing Wednesday!

The Summer Academy could not have gone better; it was great to meet all of you and start learning some Statistics! I appreciate your focus, hard work, and participation--given what I saw last week I have the utmost confidence that we can build on last year's success and perform even better on the AP exam in May!

If you haven't yet...sign up for Remind!

One More Summer Class!

Great work over the past two days! I am super excited for the upcoming year, especially after the past two days! You have all been awesome; your hard work, focus, and commitment is much appreciated! This has been a great start to AP Stat.

If you turn in your AP Summer Assignment by 1:00 on Thursday you will receive +5 extra credit points on this (test) grade.

  • Start the assignment early! You will not have time to finish it entirely in class (see below)
  • I hope to give you time to work in class on Thursday; here's my plan:
    • Linear Regression Wrap Up
      • Finding the line of best fit equation, r (correlation), and R^2 on the graphing calculator. (20 minutes)
      • Calculating an overall average (15 minutes)
      • Probability and Independence (20 minutes)
      • This would leave you with roughly 30 minutes to work in class!
        • If you have finished your assignment already you can use this time to look over/check your work
        • If you turn in a completed summer assignment and have checked your work you can leave when you are done
        • If you have not completed the summer assignment you must stay for the full session time and work on it in class
Remember, if you have trouble with something on the summer assignment use your resources! Start with the links on the right! Check out the calculator help and the AP Stats Guy!

You can also feel free to email me or send a Remind message any time--don't ever hesitate to ask questions!

    • 9:30 session: 13 slots left
    • 11:00 session: 7 slots left
Some important info about our summer assignment and summer academy:
  • The AP Stat Summer Assignment is due on/before the first day of school; this will serve as our first test grade
    • You can find all EHHS summer assignments here (click me for summer assignments!)
    • We will learn some content from our summer assignment during our summer academy; other questions in the assignment can be completed based on your current statistical/mathematical knowledge
    • If you turn in your summer assignment at the end of the third summer class you will earn extra credit toward your grade
  • A graphing calculator is required for AP Stat
    • If you are going to purchase a new calculator I recommend one in the TI-84 family; all in-class instruction will be based on this model
    • Students most commonly use TI-83 or TI-84 calculators; some have used the TI Nspire or Casio calculators, but those students are responsible for teaching themselves how to use the calculator
  • The summer academy is MANDATORY; you must be there.
    • If you are not present you will be responsible for all of the content covered; missing these sessions is like missing 6 classes during the school year.
    • We will be starting our class with these three sessions, so it is essential you attend. We will also cover material that is assessed in our summer assignment
  • Spread the word: remind your friends to be responsible and sign up!
    • AP Statistics is a team effort; as we work through a college-level workload and challenging content it will be essential that we work together. We will work together to help one another with different mathematical problems, to remind each other of deadlines and other important info, and we will help each other to study and prepare for our exams. Let's start now.
  • Email or send a Remind message any time with questions!
    • carofano.fm@easthartford.org
    • Or download the Remind app and enter the class code: @ehapstat
