21/Blackjack/Card Counting Quiz Tuesday!
ENJOY YOUR 3 DAY WEEKEND!
If you were absent or will be absent, it is your responsibility to watch the movie and the videos below. Take notes, and use these on your quiz! You will have to make up the 21 quiz before the end of the quarter!
Here are some youtube links that address the rules of blackjack and basic card counting (of course you can explore some others on youtube):

I've also been told that 21 can be found for free on demand!

Should we have our 21 quiz tomorrow or next week?
So....tomorrow we have to finish the movie, which will take nearly the whole period.
We have two options for our quiz.
1.) I pass out the quiz tomorrow and you do it while you watch the movie (this might be a pain, as you have to split your attention between the two)
2.) Or, (if we just want to enjoy the movie tomorrow) we can take the 21 quiz in class on Tuesday. (this means we'll have a 3 day break between the movie/quiz, but you will have your notes to use and help you remember the details).
Which do you prefer? Please vote on the poll on the top right of the blog. This vote will determine when we have our 21/blackjack/card counting quiz!

21/Blackjack/Card Counting!
As you all know, we are watching 21 through Friday. On Friday, we will have a quiz on the movie (setting, characters, and anything related to card counting/blackjack) as well as the notes we took on blackjack and the hi-lo card counting system on Tuesday. You can use any of your notes on the quiz.

STAR Test Tomorrow!
Tomorrow in class we will take the STAR math test.
You do not need to study or prepare anything, just come ready to do your best. It's critical that you put forth your best effort tomorrow; I want to use your STAR scores and compare them to your AP Exam scores to see if there is any correlation. I'd also like to compare your STAR scores to your AP Stat final grade to see if there's a correlation there! (So, I need reliable, representative data!)
On Monday we'll start reading some articles and such as we prepare for our Harkness discussion.
I've attached a (very tentative) calendar/plan for the rest of the year! I change my mind all the time (so who knows), but if you're curious, check it out!

No homework tomorrow?!
NO HOMEWORK TONIGHT!
Enjoy the sun. Go outside. Think about all those nights that you had AP Stat homework, and then think about how you've earned this afternoon of no AP Stats...
Tomorrow we'll enjoy some Numb3rs in class. I realllly want to watch "United Stats of America" in class, but have to find a good site to stream it (for free)....any help?

You Did It!
We made it! By the time you're reading this, the AP exam has come and gone...was it everything you hoped and dreamed it would be? :-)
I AM SO PROUD OF EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU. I love you all. I love this class.
We have a few more weeks left to look at how Statistics is actually used...we'll watch some videos, learn about card counting, read some articles....I'm looking forward to it.
When's the last time you heard this....NO HOMEWORK! Rest up, relax. Or, study for the rest of your AP Exams!
Good luck on Bio or Physics Monday!

Tomorrow's the Big Day!
This is it! (Almost). The day we've been working toward all year will be here...tomorrow! Study, rest up, eat breakfast, then study some more. Be confident; you've worked hard all year, and you've learned a lot. Tomorrow, apply everything that you've learned.
I am so proud of everything you've (all) done this year. I have pushed (maybe forced?) you to work harder this year than any other. I've challenged you to do nonstop work, to work over your breaks, and to constantly push yourselves to do more than (maybe) you thought you could. Sometimes I probably annoyed you or even was rude. (Sorry about that). Hopefully you know it's only because I hold you all to the highest of expectations, because I believe that you are all super smart and that we can all continue to do better--no matter what our grade is or what we understand (or don't), we can all do better. Tonight, do better. Prepare, prepare, prepare. Study, study, study.
Be proud of yourself. Work as hard as you have all year for one more day! Study hard tonight. All that I ask is that you try your best--and that means putting in 153531% effort from now (whenever you read this) until tomorrow when the exam ends. After that, all that matters is that you walk out of the exam knowing you did your best, and not thinking, "I could've done better." The only way to "fail" the AP exam is to walk out knowing that you did not put forth your best.
I love this class. And I believe we can do great tomorrow. Let's get the best scores we've ever had in AP Stat at EHHS. Do great for you, for me, and for the school. :)
Studying for the AP Stat Exam:
1.) Do the first practice exam I gave you (both multiple choice and free response) and then check your answers; figure out what you got wrong!
2.) Repeat! Do practice exam 2! (started today in class)
3.) Try the practice exam online (link on the right)
4.)Use Barron's review guides, flash cards, other review books like 5 Steps to a 5 to study specific topics or to do another practice test!
5.) Look at any released free-response items and their rubrics! (All Released Free Response Items!)

It's AP Exam Week!
It's finally here! This is the week we've been working towards in all of our AP classes...I know it's a busy time with college decisions/paperwork (for many of us), multiple exams, and the end of the school year approaching, but it's only 2 more weeks of hard work for our exams! Keep working hard for the next 10 days to best prepare yourself for exams!
The 2006 AP Free Response question (provided Friday) will be checked as homework tomorrow. If you lost it or were out, check out the previous post (Friday's post).
There will (most likely) be no AP Stat homework tonight, Wednesday, or Thursday. I really really really really really hope that you're using this time to study!
