SBAC Week...

I don't know about you, but I'm looking forward to having our regular schedule back...

Of course there's no homework to post about...

However, if you're curious, I've scanned a copy of my answers to the AP free response questions under our "Classroom Resources" (it's the first link at the top). Check it out and see what you think!

This week we'll continue to see some Stats in action and watch selections from the documentary "Freakonomics."

Next week we'll take some time to write letters (with advice) to next year's AP Stat students! (we'll also watch an episode of Numb3rs).

Then, for our last full week of school, we'll learn about card counting and then watch the movie 21--followed by a quiz on the movie/card counting.

Finally, we'll do a "final exam review" packet, and then it's exam time! Can you believe it?!
Enjoy your late mornings seniors/sophomores! Juniors--do your best on the SBAC test!

Relax and Enjoy the Wekend!

If you did not take the test today you will make up the test in class on Tuesday.
  • The review questions are posted under our classroom resources.
  • The questions/answer key are posted in Thursday's blog post (5/14).
For those of you who were here, your test grades are in the gradebook....check them out! Great work! (so far, the overall average is a 90%....)

Homework is a thing of the past! And we finished our last test of the quarter today! :) That means your only responsibility for AP Stats this weekend is to do something fun. And get outside. Enjoy some time with friends, family, or some quality alone time. Read something. Maybe play some basketball or football or something outside. Maybe sit in the grass on the beautiful Sunday afternoon and just enjoy the scenery. Or play some Xbox or watch some movies/Netflix in your pajamas if it ends up raining Saturday.

On Monday we'll start our next post-AP-exam assignment: writing a letter of advice/tips to next year's AP Stat students!

Until then, have a great weekend! See you all next week! :)

FINAL TEST TOMORROW!

Tomorrow is the last test of the quarter--and it's worth the most points, so be ready!

  • The test consists of 25 multiple choice questions
  • The 21 questions on today's review packet are the same concepts as on the test, but with different numbers: if you can do the review packet (without notes), you can get an A on this test!
  • If you bring the review packet tomorrow, completed (with work shown), you can earn extra credit on your test grade!
  • This is your last chance to boost your test average! Be prepared and get an A!
  • The test review packet uploaded under our classroom resources--it's the very first download/file/link at the top. (in case you were out or need another one...)
Let's all boost our grades with an A tomorrow! Enjoy your half day!

Here are the answers to the review packet...

We Made It!

Can you believe that we did it? We're here! You are literally taking the AP Exam as I type this (ignore the time on my post, it's 1:34 pm right now).

It's been a long year of hard work and hopefully a little fun in the classroom. I appreciate each and every single one of you! I'm so proud to be your Stat teacher!

Tomorrow in class we'll do some review for our last test of the quarter (which will be on Friday)! Be here! Let's get this test done; next week we have a crazy schedule, and then we have lots of senior activities, so get it done Friday!

Enjoy your night! Rest up and relax...you earned it. :)

AP Exam Tomorrow!

Can you believe it?! We made it this far....tomorrow is the big day.

Study tonight. Please. Any time/effort you can put in tonight is helpful; you never know--maybe you study for 30 minutes, and the content you studied shows up on the first free response question! Of course I hope you've been studying all along (and will study for more than a half hour), but any studying you do helps. Prepare yourself to do well tomorrow!

It's been a long year of hard work. You have all made me proud over and over again. Tomorrow is the day we've been preparing for all year. I look forward to seeing your scores in July, and seeing you all exceed my expectations just as you have done all year. But remember, the key to getting a 4 or 5 is preparing yourself for this exam.

A few things to remember for tomorrow and the exam:
  • Bring a pencil and a pen...and, of course, a calculator!
  • Get a good night's sleep and eat! (Don't stay up until 6 am studying and starving yourself...you may crash during the test!)
  • Use your formula sheet! (especially if you get stuck)
  • Don't leave any multiple choice blank! At worst, take an educated guess!
  • Use all of your time! You can't start a section early, so use any extra time to double check your answers!
  • Be thorough in writing your context on the free response!
  • Don't leave any free response questions blank!
  • The investigative task (#6) will be tough; do your best! Try SOMETHING for each part! Any points you can get here will boost your score!
  • DO YOUR BEST! That's the only thing that matters! :)

Last Weekend Before the Exam!

Can you believe how far we've come? This is our last weekend to prepare ourselves for the AP exam! After this weekend your Saturday and Sunday's will be AP Stat-free! How exciting! But this weekend, it's time to work. Put in a few more days of prep, we're almost there.

Meet up with your friends and have a study group outside!

Study, study, study, study. What a great Mother's day gift--a 5 on the AP exam! What's better than that? "Hey mom--I save you thousands of dollars by earning 3 college credits in high school!" :)

Enjoy your weekend. Study, rest, relax, enjoy some sun. On Monday we'll look back at chi-squared, and then on Tuesday we'll have our last day of review! I can't wait!

I've uploaded the topic outline (that I gave out in class) as well as a list of AP Free Response questions by topic under our classroom resources. Check them out!

So close to the big day...

First off, if you have a history test tomorrow--good luck!

For the rest of you--and for the weekend--STUDY! Then, STUDY MORE! Then, STUDY MORE MORE!

Only a few more days of "the grind." Keep pushing, keep working, keep preparing yourself for this exam--don't be the person who earns a score at the low end of their potential because they didn't prepare. Instead, maximize your potential (score) by preparing yourself to do well!

I have the utmost confidence in your abilities as a group. You are a unique Statistics cohort, and have proven to have great potential over the course of the year, and I honestly believe that all of us have a chance--if we prepare ourselves (study) for the exam--to earn a 3, 4, or 5. I am truly proud of each and every one of you for all of the hard work you have put in this year. You have all excelled at some point (or at all points); you have continued to work through challenging units, through tough times, through me being a jerk/hard on you--you never gave up. Don't give up now. Don't "blow" a year's worth of hard work by getting lazy now. We have one weekend left of hard work (studying), then it's all downhill from there. Let's have the best scores ever in EHHS AP Stat. Make yourselves and your school proud!

Tomorrow we'll look at some more chi-squared stuff, as well as some graphs/SOCS. See you there! Enjoy your Thursday!

Wednesday = STUDY day!

So yeah...that STUDYING thing...do it! :)

Not sure what to do? Here are some options for tonight:

  1. Do the rest of the multiple choice on the paper we used today (we just did #36)! Here are the answers, in order (35.) D, 36.) B, 37.) A, 38.) B, 39.) C)
  2. Work on the probability multiple choice that we started yesterday in class! (you have the key)
  3. Look back at the 3 "data collection" free response we got in class Monday; check Monday's blog post for the scoring rubrics
  4. Use your Barron's book! We bought it for you so you would use it!
    1. Do a practice test!
    2. Look at specific sections to review topics that you struggle with; read about them, then try some practice problems!
  5. Look over your notes--I've seen many students who typed up outlines of their notes to study!
Tomorrow we learn our last bit of "new stuff!" Be ready! I will also give you an outline of all of the topics you need to review for our exam next week! See you there!

(PS...this was the 1,001st post on this blog!)

Cinco de STUDY!

Have I mentioned that studying thing?

Tonight, study! I would recommend that you finish the 17 probability questions we started today in class and use the answer key I provided to help!

You're now 2 days into exams...many of you have an idea of the level of difficulty, the length, and the level of intensity/stress..use that as a learning experience! If you didn't study and then didn't feel like you did well, don't make the same mistake on your future exams! Prepare!

Enjoy your Cinco de Mayo--celebrate with some Stats!

See you all tomorrow!

Chem/Environmental/Psych today, Calc tomorrow!

Study, study, study, study, study, study, study, study, study. That's your homework.

One way to start studying is to finish the free response problems we started today in class to review! Here are the answer keys/rubrics:

2010 Scoring Guidelines (European Starlings Question...)

2011 Scoring Guidelines (Acrophobia question...)

2008 Scoring Guidelines (Local school board survey question...)

In your AP classes, this is the time we have (literally) been working toward for the entire year! Study, rest up, and try your best to ace these exams!

Tomorrow in class we'll do a little probability review, and then on Wednesday we'll get into regression. On Thursday we'll learn some new stuff, and then Friday it's back to review.

Enjoy your Monday! And good luck on AP Calc if I don't see you!
