Congraduations!

Congratulations to the class of 2015! Seniors, you did it! What a great night--it was awesome to see some of you and take some pictures! I'd love it if you could email me the pictures we took together so I can add them to my wall for next year! Please! (carofano.fm@easthartford.org). I wish all of you the best of luck moving forward, and know that you're always welcome in room 101 if you need some math help or want to come by and chat! I'm proud of you--never stop believing in yourself!

Only one more little piece of high school left--we'll find out our AP scores in July! I can't wait!

Juniors--you're about to start your final year of high school! Enjoy your last summer of high school, rest up, relax, enjoy...and definitely come visit me next year! You will be equally missed in 101!

To next year's AP Stat students--I'm excited for another new start and another year of Stats! You can find your summer assignment under the "Classroom Resources/Assignments" link.

• The summer assignment isn't too long...do it! This assignment is more about proving that you're ready for an AP course than anything else.The math in this assignment isn't too too hard--in truth, our coursework will be much more difficult than this summer assignment. But of course I'll be there to help you all along the way.
• If you don't know how to do something, look it up! Part of being in (and succeeding in) an AP course is putting in extra work, outside the classroom, independently. That's part of your responsibility as an AP student. If you don't know how to find a line of best fit (linear regression) on your calculator, use the info in the packet to look it up! Or google it!
• Blank questions are unacceptable! When you sit in my room next year you'll read a poster that says, "I can accept failure, but I can't accept not trying."That's our motto for this course (and for all courses!)

• You have plenty of time to do your summer assignment--it will likely only take you 1 to 2 hours of your summer!
• Other than the assignment, spend some time exploring this blog--check out the links, learn a little more about statistics, maybe even get a head start by watching some "AP Stats Guy" videos or looking at some of the powerpoints (our notes) for next year!
• Under the classroom resources link you can also find a copy of the 2015 AP exam (with my answers)--this will give you a glimpse of the types of questions we'll have to answer, the types of answers we need, and how much writing vs. math is involved in this course! Check it out!
• I'm looking forward to another great year!
• It's going to be hard work. You will have homework every day, and you have to do it if you want to succeed. As long as you're ready to work, I'm ready to help you all pass the AP exam in May!
• If you're not willing to put in the work and to do homework every night, then maybe this course isn't for you (yet). Think about it! But I hope you're ready to make the commitment and learn some awesome new math!

AP Stat Class of 2014-15: Almost done! Seniors--your exams have come and gone, and now it's time for graduation rehearsal, graduation, and your last summer before college/career/military...enjoy it! I'm proud of you for all of your hard work this year; you should be proud of yourselves, not only for this year, but for completing 4 years of hard work and preparation for the "next level."

Underclassmen--we're almost to summer. Just final exams left...end strong. Keep your GPA and grades high. :) Study hard and make sure you're ready to ace all of your tests! And, of course, I'm also super proud of all of you for your hard work this year, and I look forward to seeing you in the halls next year (as juniors and seniors)!

Final Exams!

You made it (almost)! One last test to take and you've successfully completed Advanced Placement Statistics! Be proud of you! I'm super proud of all of you!

Letters, Quiz Tomorrow, Textbooks, Final...

Your letters to next year's students are due by midnight Friday! No late letters accepted!

Today we had our quiz on 21/blackjack/card counting...if you were out, you'll make it up Monday (so watch the rest of the movie)!

Also, get those textbooks in! I will be writing accountabilities on Tuesday--seniors, don't get one! This will definitely mess with your graduation situation!

And finally, next week we have our final exam! On Monday in class seniors will have the period to work through a review guide to study for the final. (Juniors, you'll do this while the seniors take their test). In case you want a head start, the review guide is below. (Juniors, seriously though, save it for the senior exam day...)

Blackjack and Card Counting...

Today in class we began to learn about the game Blackjack/21; tomorrow we'll learn a little about card counting, and then see how these apply in the movie 21.

We will have a quiz on blackjack, card counting, and the movie 21 on Friday.

• Be here! If you're out, it's your responsibility to watch the movie/get any notes you missed!
• You can use any notes you take on the quiz Friday!
• If you are out Friday, you will have to make up the quiz in class Monday! (otherwise you will get a 0)
• This is our last quiz grade of the quarter: get an A!

You can find the powerpoint (our notes) on card counting and blackjack under our classroom resources link (in case you were out!)

• You CANNOT print out the powerpoint and use it as your notes for Friday's quiz...
• Your notes MUST be your own, handwritten, notes
