Thursday HW

Please complete the IQ worksheet provided in class. Remember, this will be collected and graded (12 points in your AP problem category!).

1. IQ can be modeled by the following: N(100,15). Use this model to answer the questions below.


a. Sketch a Normal distribution for IQ scores, and label the 68/95/99.7 rule on your picture.
b. Interpret the meaning of this rule, in context, in complete sentences.
c. Approximately what percent of people have IQ’s above 85?
d. Approximately what percent of people have IQ’s between 70 and 145?
e. Approximately what percent of people have IQ’s below 130?
f. Some consider those with IQ’s of 140 or above to be considered “genius.” Approximately what percent of people have an IQ considered to be “genius?”
g. Former President George W. Bush has an approximate IQ of 125. What percent of people would be considered less intelligent?
h. On the other hand, former President Ronald Reagan only had an IQ of approximately 105. What percent of people would be considered more intelligent?
i. Those with IQ’s between 115 and 124 are considered “above average,” or likely of university-student ability. Find the percent of category who fall into this specific interval.
j. What IQ cuts off the top 20% of IQ’s?
k. What IQ marks the 75th percentile?
l. What IQ score cuts off the most intelligent 5% of individuals?
