Thursday HW...

Tonight, please complete the 2 AP problems provided in class (or below): 2013 #1 and 2008B #3.

• These are the type of questions you'll see on our unit test--so make sure you put in a solid effort on this homework! Clearly, it's great practice for our exam (as these are exam questions!)
• For 2008B part A, you need to find sample size (n), given the margin of error ("within 2 feet")
•  What part of the interval formula represents the margin of error? Set this part of the formula  = 2 (just like we did to find sample size given ME in the past!) 

• It is impossible to look up t* without knowing n; so, when we find sample size, we must use z* (1.96 for this problem)

• Substitute 12 for sigma and 1.96 for t*, then do some algebra to solve the equation for n!  

• Then, based on your answer, determine if you have enough $ in the budget for the required sample size (and write this down)! 

•  For 2008B part B, consider your answer above....what problems arise due to our budget constraints?

Tonight, please complete the problem on the back of today's notes/example (about credit cards).

• Show the hypotheses, conditions, math and conclusion for a T-Test
• Show the math and interpret a 90% confidence interval (T-interval) for the mean number of credit cards for undergraduates.

Here is the context in case you lost yours...

A credit bureau analysis of undergraduate students’ credit records found that the average number of credit cards in an undergraduate’s wallet was 4.09. (“Undergraduate Students and Credit Cards in 2004,” Nellie Mae, May 2005). It was also reported that in a random sample of 132 undergraduates, the sample mean number of credit cards that the students said they carried was 2.6, with a sample standard deviation of 1.2.

Is there convincing evidence that the mean number of credit cards that undergraduates report carrying is less than the credit bureau’s figure of 4.09?

Tomorrow in class we'll do some AP problems to wrap up chapter 23...then, on Friday, it's on to chapter 24--2 sample t-tests and intervals! Woooo!

We're On! Review Session Tomorrow 11 - 1!

I hope you are all having a fun, relaxing, and also productive break! It's been nice to sleep in, enjoy some fun time with friends and family, and even do a little school work (so I don't have to do it all Sunday night :) )

Tomorrow we have our review session from 11:00 - 1:00.

• BRING YOUR NOTES and CALCULATOR! I will not directly tell you how to do the problems on our take home test, but I can direct you to the correct notes or examples to use to help!
• BRING YOUR TAKE HOME TEST! You can use this time however you like; I can answer any "random" questions, you can work in your Barron's book, or you can work on this week's take home test with your classmates. Maybe you can even finish and turn it in tomorrow
• MEET IN OUR ROOM (101)! Please meet tomorrow at 11:00 in our classroom. We'll figure out more space if we need it (if more than 30 people show up).
• I'LL BRING SOME SNACKS! I'll have some generic snacks...granola bars, fruit snacks, chips, waters (that kind of stuff). Feel free to bring an additional snack for yourself if you like.
• BE FOCUSED! Come prepared to work hard and be productive! You are expected to be focused/working/on task the entire time you're here!

Hopefully I see many of you tomorrow! If not, enjoy the rest of break, and be ready for some "new stuff" on Monday! Feel free to read a little of chapter 23 if you'd like to get ahead!

April Vacation!!!!

TAKE HOME TEST DUE MONDAY, 4/13 (the day we're back)!

• This is your first test grade of the 4th quarter, and it's a big one--70 points!
• You can find the take home test under our classroom resources link if you need another copy!
• You will lose 10 points for each day it's late--so get this done!
• Email me with any questions (before Sunday 4/12)! carofano.fm@easthartford.org
• Use your notes, Barron's book, AP Stats Guy, etc. to help!
• Now is the time to start studying for your AP Exam!
• The BEST thing you can do is practice tests in the back of your Barron's book!

Our APRIL BREAK REVIEW SESSION is tentatively scheduled for...(this date/time is not yet finalized)...

• THURSDAY, 4/9 from 11:00 to 1:00 (I can definitely stay a little later if people are still working!)
• We will work in groups on our take home test!
• I can answer any and all questions you may have!
• Be sure to check the blog throughout the week for updates on the day and time of the review session!

Other than that, ENJOY YOUR BREAK! Rest up, relax, spend time having fun with friends, family, and yourself! Go outside! Study a little for your AP exams! Recharge those batteries--when we come back we have 1 month until the AP exam, so it's definitely going to be a grind! Enjoy this opportunity to relax before the home stretch of hard work and preparation for the AP exam!

Homework and Stamps!

1. Tonight, please complete the following in your textbook: page 509: 7, 17, 19

• This will COUNT AS 3 HOMEWORK assignments
• It's super important you do this homework, as it's our last time to practice the "2 proportion stuff" other than our classwork tomorrow! That's why it's worth so much.
• This will be your first homework grade of the 4th quarter! Counts triple! Do it! 

1. Stamps are due tomorrow!

• Count up your stamps and record the total on the front 
•  Double check your counting!
•  Only papers with actual stamps on them count! This time I'll be paying extra attention for people who sneak papers without stamps in.

Tomorrow in class you will work together on some AP problems with 2 proportion z-intervals and 2 proportion z tests--this will count as our first quiz grade for the 4th quarter!

Lastly, remember that you have a take home test due Monday, April 13th (the Monday we come back)! You can find this under our classroom resources!
