Here's the list: (many of these words repeat from chapters 7 and 8, so use your old quizzes to study!)
- Residual (both how it's calculated and what it is, graphically)
- Leverage
- Outlier
- Influential Point
- Interpolation
- Extrapolation
- Slope
- Y-Intercept
- Coefficient of Determination (R^2)
- Over/underestimate (in terms of the sign, +/-, of the residual)
- Residual Plot
- Lurking Variable
Early Extra Credit Opportunity: DUE TOMORROW!
Want to start out with some early extra credit for the second quarter? Here's your chance!
Consider your "Quest" that you got back today. On separate paper, do each of the following (I'll collect this tomorrow):
1.) Look at question #2. The most common incorrect answer here was "C," or "D." The correct answer is B. Explain, in a complete sentence (or a couple), why the answer to this question is B.
2.) Next, look at question #5. Here, the correct answer is "D." (We actually did pretty well on this question). Briefly explain the mistake that exists in statements A,B,C, and E.
3.) Look at question 6. This is the hardest question on the "quest." Most people substituted "5" into the equation, and then answered "E," but this is incorrect...
- For this question, first, write an interpretation of slope in a complete sentence.
- Next, consider this question: it asks us, "what is the estimated increase in temperature that corresponds to an increase of 5 chirps per minute?" So, it's not asking us for the temperature at 5 chirps per minute, but it's asking how much will the temp. increase if the number of chirps increases by 5 chirps per minute...
- Explain, in a complete sentence (and/or show some math), why the correct answer is B. (Consider your interpretation of slope, I had you write it for a reason!)
4.) Finally, focus on question 9. Many people selected B, but the correct answer is C. Explain why B is incorrect and C is correct, in a complete sentence.
Talk to each other! Many of your friends may have gotten something right that you got wrong--so talk to each other, and help each other out! Tomorrow we'll go over each of these, so this extra credit must be turned in tomorrow!
