If you have been out the past couple days it is essential that you take some time this weekend to watch some of the Stat Guy Videos (linked below) to catch up! You missed some incredibly important intro notes/learning about hypothesis testing!
Also, if you missed our CI quiz (Weds) or our Ch. 19 Vocab Quiz (Thurs), be sure to get these made up--I expect these to be done Monday! (Remind message me to discuss a date).

Weekend Responsibility #1: Self Assess! Be sure you stay on top of everything and don't fall behind!

  • What should I know about hypothesis testing (ch. 20) at this point?
    • What is the (4 step) process for any hypothesis test?
    • What is a null hypothesis? Alternative hypothesis?
    • What is the general logic of a hypothesis test--what are we trying to do?
      • How can we consider a (courtroom) trial as a hypothesis test?
      • How can I write a null and alternative hypothesis for a given context?
        • If you did not do Thursday's HW you can show me Monday for credit! (this practices the hypotheses
          • Page 469: 1, 2, 7, 11a
      • Watch the AP Stat Guy video about writing hypotheses for some review/help/if you were out!
      • How do we check the conditions for a one proportion z test?
        • Which condition differs for a one prop z test v. a one prop z interval?
        • Why do we check this condition differently for each process?
      • What math work do we need to show for a one proportion z test?
        • What are we trying to do mathematically?
        • How do we know if a result is statistically significant?
        • How can we calculate a p-value
        • Watch the AP Stat Guy Video about the logic of hypothesis testing!
      • What is a p-value?
    Weekend HW:
    • Page 470-471: Be sure to check all answers in the back of the book!
      • The back of the book writes "SRS" for a condition--this isn't sufficient! You need a sentence with a little context!
      • 11b (conditions)
      • 13ab (hypotheses and conditions)
      • 17 (for #17 I want you to write the hypotheses, then try to decide why we CANNOT proceed with a one proportion z test--which condition fails?)
      • 21 (hypotheses and conditions)

    Want to get ahead?
    • After we learn a full hypothesis test, next week (at some point) we will have these three problems for homework--for each we'll have to do the full test
    • If you like, you can get a head start on this and start the hypotheses/conditions for each!
    • I would do these on separate paper if you start them--next week I'll give a worksheet with these contexts
    • Also, if you start the hypotheses/conditions, be sure to leave a a good amount of space to add the math/conclusion for each (maybe each question takes up half a page-ish?)
    Today's Class Recap:
    • Stamp = hypotheses and conditions
    • HW Questions/Discussion: writing hypotheses questions?
      • Watch the Stat Guy video about the null and alternative hypotheses (linked above) to catch up on this!
    • Conditions for a hypothesis test...
      • Use the stamp problem to drive this discussion....
      • How do we check conditions differently for a hypothesis test v. a confidence interval?
        • (One condition is checked differently--success/failure)
      • Why do we see this difference in how we check conditions?
    • The math...
      • What work do we have to show for the "math" step?
      • What is the mathematical logic we're applying--how can we determine if a sample result is statistically significant?
      • Watch the AP Stat Guy video about the logic of hypothesis testing (above) to catch up on this!
    • We'll pick up with the math and get into our conclusions on Monday! See you there!
