Monday HW

Tonight you have two things to get done:

1.) Please complete the packet we started in class!
  • You can skip the Peps problem at the end! (or do it for three stamps.....)
  • This is for your understanding! You WILL have test questions (next Monday) based on these ideas!
    • The more effort you put in, the more ready you'll be next Monday!
  • There is an answer key to pages 3 and 4 at the bottom of this post. If you get stuck look at the key and try to use the answers to develop your understanding!

2.) Please complete the "2012 FR Context" (hypothesis test) provided in class (or below).
  • This is another full hypothesis test (free response)--like your weekend HW or Thursday's HW!
  • The back (with parts a, b, c) is the actual FR from the exam--this will be a homework assignment later this week most likely, feel free to get ahead
    • We have not learned part A yet....that's coming tomorrow....

Today's Class Recap:

  • Stamp = Write a conclusion given a context/p-value
  • HW Questions: used hw to discuss standard deviation v. standard error (notes)
  • Classwork: Understanding PValues and Conclusions (packet)
    • How can changing an alpha level affect our conclusion?
    • How can we calculate a p-value for a one or two sided test if we are only given the z-score (standardized test statistic)?

We will have our chapter 20 vocab quiz on Wednesday! Here's the list if you want to start studying....
  • Hypothesis Test (what do we use it for?--to see if a parameter has increased, decreased, or changed)
  • Confidence Interval (what do we use it for?--to estimate the value of a population parameter)
  • Sampling Variability
  • Null Hypothesis
  • Alternative Hypothesis
  • Conditions: know how to check each, why we check each (from last vocab quiz), and which condition differs for an interval/test
  • Standardized Test Statistic
  • PValue
  • Standard Error v. Standard Deviation
  • Statistic
  • Parameter
  • Alpha Level/Significance Level
  • Know how to write conclusions:
    • When do we reject Ho (based on alpha level, p-value)?
    • When do we fail to reject Ho (based on alpha level, p-value)?
    • When do we say "there IS evidence of the Ha?".
    • When do we say "there IS NOT evidence of the Ha?"
  • Chapter 19 Vocab (that might be on this quiz)....
    • Critical Value
    • Point Estimate
    • Interpret Confidence LEVEL v. Interpret Confidence INTERVAL
    • Why do we check each condition?
      • Randomization: to assume our sample represents the population
      • 10%: to assume independence within our sample
        • This means we want to assume that one person's response or one data value is not related to another
      • Success/Failure: to make sure our sample is large enough
