Wednesday HW!

Tonight please complete the "conditional and tree diagram" practice problems provided in class or below..
  • I would start with the problem about attending public/other high schools and then eventually graduating college or not
    • "Other" high schools might mean a private school, home schooling, or a magnet school
    • For our tree diagram we must first consider the type of high school a student attended (our first set of branches)...
    • Then, depending on what type of high school they attended (public or other) they can "eventually graduate college" or "do not eventually graduate college"--our next set of branches
  • Binge Drinking Question:
    • The first bullets simply define binge drinking and will not be used in our tree diagram (there are no probabilities here!)
    • There are a couple ways we can approach this tree diagram....
      • We can have 3 sets of branches to start--students who binge drink, drink moderately, or abstain
        • Then, we want to look at if the student was involved in an alcohol related accident or not....
        • Remember, those who "drink moderately" or "abstain" are considered "nonbingers," so we will use the 9% twice (if we started with 3 branches)
      • Other people might only use two sets of branches to start--students who binge drink, students who do not binge drink...
        • Remember, those who drink moderately OR abstain do not binge drink....
  • Good luck! Feel free to send me a Remind message with your tree diagram to see if it's correct before you answer the questions!
We will start class tomorrow with our chapter 15 vocab quiz--be sure to STUDY!
  • Sample Space
  • Disjoint (Mutually Exclusive)
  • Independence
  • Conditional Probability
  • Union
  • Intersection
  • Complement
  • "Given"
  • Sum of probabilties of all possible outcomes
  • Venn Diagram (when can we use it?)
  • Tree diagram (when can we use it?)
  • Probability
  • Equally Likely

After our vocab quiz tomorrow we'll do some more practice with tree diagrams! Then, on Friday, we'll wrap up this chapter with even more practice!

Here's my updated plan through midterm exams in case you're curious...

Thursday (12/7) = Chapter 15 Vocab Quiz, Tree Diagram Practice

Friday (12/8) = Chapter 15 Classwork (AP MC and FR)

Monday (12/11) = Start chapter 16!

Tuesday (12/12) = Chapter 15 Quiz (15 min) and Chapter 16 Notes

Wednesday (12/13) to Friday (12/15) = Rest of Chapter 16, Chapter 16 Vocab Quiz and Classwork

Monday (12/18) = Finish chapter 16 and answer probability questions

Tuesday (12/19) = Probability Test: Chapter 14, 15, 16

Wednesday (12/20) to Friday (12/22) = Geometric and Binomial Probability (mini-test Friday 12/22)

Winter Break = "Teaching Yourself Chapter 13--Experimental Design" Project

Tuesday (1/2) to Friday (1/5) = Recapping Experimental Design

Monday (1/8) to Friday (1/12) = Midterm Exam
